KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — Malaysia has initiated the transition to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), becoming the third country globally to begin this migration. According to Derek John Fernandez of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), this move aims to enhance cyber security and establish full governmental jurisdiction over IP addresses.

Speaking at the ‘Asia Pacific Workshop: Certified IPv6 Migration Strategy for Regulators and Governing Authorities,’ Fernandez highlighted that the transition from IPv4 to IPv6, which can handle over 34 trillion IP addresses, will significantly improve security and usability. He noted that obtaining the National Internet Registry registration number for Malaysia could take three to five years, ultimately placing these addresses under government control and reducing online fraud.
