KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim affirmed today that Malaysia has no intention to sell Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), dismissing recent speculations suggesting otherwise. During the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar clarified that there have been no discussions or proposals regarding the sale of MAHB to foreign entities.
Anwar addressed concerns raised by Paya Besar MP Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah from Umno regarding the consortium of government-linked investment companies and their decision-making process involving MAHB shares. He emphasized that while Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) has increased its stake to 70%, the operations and management of MAHB remain under Malaysian control, with key leadership positions held by Malaysians.
“Contrary to misinformation, MAHB’s ownership structure does not involve a sale of the airport assets, akin to how MAHB manages the Istanbul International Airport under Turkish government ownership,” Anwar explained. Anwar’s statement comes amidst ongoing public discourse surrounding the involvement of GIP and concerns over foreign investments, particularly related to MAHB’s strategic importance and operational integrity within Malaysia’s aviation sector.
