KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 – The Malaysian government plans to enhance airport infrastructure to support the country’s semiconductor exports, aligning with the National Semiconductor Strategy. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz announced that his ministry (Miti) will soon engage in discussions with the Ministry of Transport (MoT) on this matter, noting that 90% of exports rely on air transportation.

During a Dewan Rakyat session, Tengku Zafrul highlighted the need for better infrastructure, citing Penang’s inability to accommodate a 777 cargo plane and suggestions to expand Senai Airport in Johor. He also emphasized the importance of the East Coast Rail Link project in boosting economic and industrial development. Tengku Zafrul praised the Kelantan state government’s support for the electrical and electronic industry, referencing Rohm Wako Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s RM1.7 billion investment, which has created 2,000 jobs.
