SEPANG, June 27  The government supports local airlines’ initiatives to expand their fleets, which is expected to lead to more competitive airfares, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He explained that while airfares are subject to dynamic pricing and the government can only cap prices for domestic travel during festive seasons, increasing supply through fleet expansion will naturally reduce prices.

Addressing concerns about high post-pandemic airfares, Loke welcomed Batik Air’s plan to add 20 aircraft within the next six months, bringing their total fleet servicing Malaysia to 50 by year-end. This move is anticipated to increase market competition and adjust prices downward. Loke spoke after witnessing Batik Air’s memorandum of understanding with Kia to offer a premium transfer service for business class passengers at KLIA Terminal 1.
