KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz will provide a detailed explanation regarding Malaysia’s drop in the World Competitiveness Ranking released by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). Malaysia fell by seven places to rank 34th out of 67 countries, a decline from last year’s 27th position. In the Asia-Pacific region, Malaysia slid to 10th out of 14 countries.

Minister Zafrul mentioned that his ministry is currently reviewing the report to understand the various issues related to global trade. A comprehensive discussion with relevant parties is expected before he addresses the matter this evening. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil emphasized the need to allow MITI the necessary time to analyze the report thoroughly, citing Malaysia’s significant investment inflow in sectors such as semiconductors, data centers, and artificial intelligence.
