NIBONG TEBAL, June 28 — Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced that the new Dual Language Programme (DLP) guidelines are mandatory for all government schools. She emphasized that all schools must offer classes teaching mathematics and science in Malay, adhering to the Upholding the Malay Language, and Strengthening the English Language (MBMMBI) policy. Refuting claims of non-compliance by some schools, she assured that the Ministry would provide support for schools facing implementation issues.

Fadhlina also welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s proposal to appoint volunteer English teachers from Singapore for underprivileged urban, rural, and remote areas, including Sabah and Sarawak. She clarified that this initiative, funded by the Singapore government, underscores the close diplomatic ties between the two nations and aims to enhance teaching practices and innovation. The minister highlighted similar initiatives with developed countries and launched the Sekolah Pengajar dan MBMMBI: Sahabat Bahasa Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia programme, aimed at improving students’ proficiency in Malay and English through expert-led teaching methods.
