GEORGE TOWN, June 28 — Under the leadership of CEO Ir. Pathmanathan K., PBAPP is set to tackle Penang’s escalating water demand through four major engineering projects in 2024. These initiatives include the expansion of the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP), the installation of new treated water pipelines in Seberang Perai and Penang Island, and the construction of a crucial river-crossing pipeline. The total investment for these projects is projected at RM221 million, reflecting PBAPP’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable water supply for the state.

With the completion of these projects, Penang will see a significant boost in its water treatment and distribution capabilities. The Package 12A project at the Sungai Dua WTP is expected to increase water treatment capacity by 114 million liters per day, while new pipelines will enhance water delivery from Sungai Dua to key areas. These efforts, part of PBAPP’s Water Contingency Plan 2030, are vital for meeting the projected future water demand and addressing the challenges posed by Penang’s limited water resources and climate variability.
