KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 – The High Court has dismissed former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s attempt to enforce a supposed “supplementary order” that would allow him to serve the rest of his jail term under house arrest. Judge Datuk Amarjeet Singh Serjit Singh ruled against Najib after finding the affidavits from Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, which supported the claim, to be hearsay. The court also noted that Najib’s affidavit lacked concrete evidence to support the existence of the order.

Judge Amarjeet Singh emphasized that there is no provision in any law or the Federal Constitution requiring the Pardons Board to verify or produce such an order. He stated that Najib’s reliance on hearsay without concrete evidence rendered his case unarguable for a full hearing. Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, announced plans to appeal the decision. Najib, who has been in prison since August 2022 for crimes related to the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd, claimed the order was issued during a January meeting and confirmed in February.
