KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 – The Ministry of Transport is ramping up its Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) operations to handle the surge in applications from Singaporean vehicles set to enter Malaysia from October 1. Following the government’s announcement requiring all foreign-registered vehicles from Singapore to possess a VEP for land travel, the number of applications received between May 28 and June 29 has exceeded the total for all of 2023, with 23,649 applications compared to last year’s 15,424.
In response to the influx, the ministry has tripled its email support staff dedicated to VEP inquiries from five to 15 and increased personnel at the Johor Baru VEP collection centre from seven to 12. Transport Minister Anthony Loke assured a smooth transition for applicants, stating, “The backlog is expected to be cleared within the next few weeks.” Additionally, vehicle owners can now make changes and renew permits online via the VEP portal, with timely reminders sent before a VEP expires.
From August 1, road users can also pay the RM20 road charge using credit and debit cards, alongside the existing Touch ‘n Go cards, through the MDGS mobile application. This initiative aims to streamline border traffic and enhance security, aligning with the government’s efforts to improve regulation of foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia.
