KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — The Auditor-General’s 2/2024 report has highlighted issues in the Gerak Insan Gemilang (GIG) training programme under the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana). The programme, aimed at revitalising job demands during the Covid-19 pandemic, saw expenses amounting to RM51.69 million for the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp), with 3,726 participants, some attending up to 16 sessions.

The audit revealed discrepancies in payment claims and participant attendance verification, with instances of the same participants attending multiple concurrent courses. Additionally, the list of participants submitted to the Finance Ministry included 234 suspicious applications with repetitive names and identification numbers, indicating potential mismanagement of the training programmes and undermining the government’s efforts to enhance skills and reduce unemployment.
