KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 – A recent survey reveals that 74% of risk management experts anticipate significant impacts on their organizations due to geopolitical tensions in 2024. International SOS, a leading health and security services company, underscores the urgency for organizations to address these rising risks, which also pose severe threats to employee mental health and wellbeing. The 2024 Risk Outlook report by International SOS highlights that 65% of risk professionals believe the world has become more dangerous over the past year, with three-quarters expecting mental health issues to heavily influence their organizations this year.
The global political landscape has grown increasingly polarized, with over half of the countries surveyed in the 2023 Edelman Trust Barometer reporting heightened divisions and distrust in government. This distrust extends to public services, leading employees to place more trust in their employers. In response, International SOS advises organizations to enhance workplace violence prevention programs, establish clear behavior policies, and implement robust crisis communication strategies. Additionally, providing comprehensive mental health support is crucial as employees face elevated stress from prolonged geopolitical tensions and economic pressures.
