NIBONG TEBAL, July 10 – Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced that the party is open to the return of any former member, including former economic affairs minister Mustapa Mohamed, also known as Tok Pa. Zahid emphasized that the door to Umno is always open, but returning members must first be approved by the party’s disciplinary board and political bureau.
The announcement comes after Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin expressed surprise at Mustapa’s departure from Bersatu and retirement from politics. Muhyiddin respected Mustapa’s decision and believed he remained a popular figure among voters. Despite Mustapa ruling out a return to politics, Zahid remains optimistic about Umno’s strength, particularly in the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election, where the party will leverage its 5,105 members to canvass for votes.
