KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 – The National Audit Department (NAD) has revealed in its latest report that 94.2% of Malaysia’s septic tanks, equivalent to 623,466 units, have not been cleaned over the past three years. The Auditor-General’s Report 2/2024, tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today, highlighted significant lapses in septic tank decontamination and water project delays, pointing out incomplete sewer coverage and subpar maintenance in several states, including Kedah, Perlis, Sabah, and Kelantan.

The report also noted severe delays in water project completion, with some projects running over two years behind schedule. Notably, a water source development project in Sabah was delayed by 341 days, and four water supply projects experienced delays ranging from 324 to 1,076 days. The report underscored deficits in treated water supply in Kedah and Kelantan and criticized the MyWater Portal for not displaying current water yield information, highlighting systemic issues in Malaysia’s water management and infrastructure.
