PETALING JAYA, July 12 — DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has urged the government to allocate emergency funding and recruit 3,348 additional police personnel to keep police station gates open after 10pm. This call follows Home Minister Senator Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s announcement that gates of police stations in remote and rural areas would close after 10pm for security reasons.

Lim highlighted that this move was ridiculed by MCA leaders, who questioned the rationale behind keeping public hospitals and convenience stores open 24 hours while police stations close at night. He emphasized the need to bolster the police force, which reportedly lacks around 5,000 personnel, to ensure public safety and maintain continuous operations at police stations. Saifuddin had explained the closure as a necessary measure following a deadly extremist attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor.
