SHAH ALAM, July 16 — The Shah Alam Sessions Court fined KK Mart and its supplier Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd RM60,000 each over the scandal involving socks bearing the word “Allah”. This decision followed both companies pleading guilty to amended charges for causing religious offense. KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Chai Kee Kan and his wife Datin Seri Loh Siew Mui were acquitted of criminal charges in the same case.
The court granted a discharge amounting to an acquittal (DAA) for Chai, Loh, and three company directors. The Attorney-General’s Chambers agreed with the defense’s representation, leading to the withdrawal of charges via discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA). However, the defense successfully argued for full acquittal, with the criminal court concurring.
