KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 – DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke reassured today that the situation faced by six Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MPs would not arise among DAP’s federal lawmakers due to timely amendments to the party constitution before the 15th general election (GE15). Loke emphasized that DAP had already incorporated provisions in its constitution requiring elected representatives to vacate their seats if they disobeyed party directives. This amendment, effective before GE15, ensures that all DAP candidates were aware and bound by these rules.
“In contrast to the situation with Bersatu, where the constitution was amended after GE15, our MPs are fully cognizant of these provisions,” Loke stated during a press conference at the Parliament building. He acknowledged that while the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat had made a decision regarding the Bersatu MPs, DAP’s internal rules and legal opinions supported their stance on adherence to party loyalty.
