PETALING JAYA, July 19 – Kedah Menteri Besar Sanusi Nor has appealed to Sarawak for financial assistance to cover the costs associated with sending the Kedah contingent to the Malaysia Games (Sukma). Sanusi highlighted the substantial expenses incurred in transporting athletes and equipment to the event. Speaking after the state executive council’s meeting, Sanusi emphasized the logistical challenges, particularly the transportation of multiple containers of equipment to Sarawak.

“The costs involved in participating in Sukma this year have escalated due to the distance. We hope that Sarawak, as the host state, can provide some financial support to alleviate these burdens,” he stated. Sukma 2024 is slated to take place across Sarawak’s nine divisions from August 17 to 24, featuring 37 sports and 488 events with the participation of over 12,600 athletes and officials. This marks the third time Sarawak is hosting the games, following previous editions in 1990 and 2016, with preparations reported to be nearing completion at 90%.
