GEORGE TOWN, July 23 — The Penang South Island 2050 Local Plan (RTPSI 2050) is currently on public display for feedback until July 29. The preliminary publicity programme, held at three different locations, invites the public to share their ideas and suggestions before the draft plan is produced. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, stating that the plan will incorporate national, state, and local policies with a focus on smart, green, and sustainable development.
The Penang South Island, also known as the Silicon Island project, aims to reclaim 2,300 acres off the southern coast of Penang. Chow highlighted that the project adheres to the Sustainable Development Goals, prioritizing green urban planning and a 45% reduction in carbon emissions. The draft PSI 2050 local plan will be produced by the Penang State Town and Country Planning Department following this initial feedback period, with further public participation to follow.
The preliminary publicity is accessible at JPBD office (Level 57, Komtar), third floor Komtar, and Pusat Perkhidmatan Setempat Nelayan (PPSN) Permatang Damar Laut from 8 am to 4 pm until July 29.
