GEORGE TOWN, July 24 – Penang is set to enhance its status as a global hub for Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and Digital Technologies with the upcoming completion of GBS By The Sea. Scheduled for completion by 1st December 2024, this state-of-the-art office space, equipped with lab facilities, is meticulously designed to house three prominent design, research and development (R&D), and engineering services centres. The building is part of the Penang IC Design and Digital Park, which offers one million square feet of premium office space for high-impact activities, including IC Design, R&D, Digital Global Business Services (DGBS), and digital technologies investments.
GBS By The Sea stands as a prominent seafront building with an excellent view of the sea and the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge. The 9-storey building provides a net lettable area of 294,000 square feet and is equipped with 830 parking bays. It features two 11kV power substations, making it the first building in Malaysia to offer this advanced infrastructure. The building also boasts a floor loading capacity of 5KN/m2, ideal for housing IC design and R&D companies, and meets the standards of a Malaysia Digital building (previously known as Multimedia Super Corridor Cybercentre).
The building will be fully occupied by AMD, Celestica, and one of the tech giants from the United States, creating approximately 2,000-3,000 high-value jobs. Chief Minister of Penang, Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, emphasized the state’s commitment to advancing technology and industry, enhancing Penang’s competitiveness globally.
