KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has extended its congratulations to Sarawak Petchem Sdn. Bhd. for the successful launch of its RM7 billion Methanol Complex in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu. This state-of-the-art facility, with an annual production capacity of 1.75 million metric tonnes, positions Sarawak Petchem as Malaysia’s second-largest methanol producer, trailing only PETRONAS Chemical.
Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, praised the project as a milestone in advancing Malaysia’s chemical industry and boosting the economy. The new complex not only strengthens Malaysia’s position as a leading methanol producer in the Asia Pacific region but also is expected to stimulate job creation and attract further investments in downstream industries.
MIDA CEO Mr. Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid expressed confidence that this development aligns with the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the Chemical Industry Roadmap (CIR) 2030, promising significant economic benefits for the region.
