SUBANG, July 27 — AirAsia has announced the expansion of its operations to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport), reinforcing its position as Malaysia’s largest airline in terms of connectivity and capacity. Complementing its main hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2), this move provides travelers with additional connectivity and a more convenient option due to Subang Airport’s proximity to the city.

The new operations will begin with 14 weekly flights to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu starting on 30 August 2024, marking a significant milestone for the airline and the revitalization of Subang Airport. Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A, highlighted the strategic importance of this expansion, stating, “Subang Airport holds a special place in my heart, and it is exciting to witness its resurgence as one of the key players in Malaysia’s aviation landscape.

This homecoming is both nostalgic and strategic, with Capital A’s engineering arm, Asia Digital Engineering (ADE), based there to enhance our aircraft maintenance efficiency. Repainting Subang Airport red symbolizes our commitment to growth and the prosperity of the communities we serve.” AirAsia Malaysia’s Managing Director, Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra, added, “The decision to operate at Subang Airport as our second home in Kuala Lumpur is driven by its optimal location and the seamless travel experience it offers.

This move boosts our domestic network to 948 weekly flights, setting the stage for future growth and the addition of international routes.”
