KUALA LUMPUR, August 6 — The Media and Strategic Communications Division of the Prime Minister’s Office summoned Meta Platforms Inc. (Meta) today to address the removal of posts from the Facebook and Instagram accounts of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The meeting, attended by Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, was called in response to Meta’s deletion of tributes and condolences posts related to the late Ismail Haniyeh.

The Prime Minister’s Office condemned Meta’s actions as discriminatory and unjust, accusing the company of suppressing free expression and failing to respect the Palestinian people’s plight. The office also criticized Meta for suspending a live broadcast of the Palestinian Liberation Rally on Facebook. The Prime Minister’s Office has demanded a detailed explanation and a public apology from Meta, emphasizing the need for transparency in content moderation policies. Meta is expected to issue a press statement addressing these concerns shortly.
