KUALA LUMPUR, August 6 — Tencent has announced plans to partner with Malaysian eWallet providers to enable cross-border QR payments in China, following the shutdown of WeChat Pay Malaysia. While Malaysian users can still utilize RMB-based Weixin Pay through credit or debit cards linked to their WeChat app, Tencent aims to facilitate direct MYR-based eWallet payments at Weixin Pay merchants in Mainland China.

The company will focus on RMB-denominated transactions, aiming to enhance convenience for Malaysian travelers and businesses. Tencent’s initiative is part of a broader strategy to support cross-border QR payment interoperability, building on existing partnerships like TNG eWallet’s integration with Alipay+ and ongoing collaborations between PayNet and Ant Group to expand QR payment options globally.
