GEORGE TOWN, August 8 — The Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta is poised to return with grandeur on November 23-24, 2024, at Teluk Bahang Dam. Announced at a press conference held at Bilik Ruby, Komtar, YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, highlighted that this year’s event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
With over 60 international teams, including participants from the UAE, Netherlands, and UK, the festival underscores its global appeal. The event will also feature a special friendship celebration in collaboration with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China and an expanded partnership with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) to attract more Hong Kong teams. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta, evolving from its origins in the 1950s into a prominent global competition.
Set against the backdrop of the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve at Teluk Bahang Dam, the festival blends fierce athletic competition with vibrant cultural activities. With support from sponsors like Angsana Hotel Teluk Bahang, the festival promises to enhance Penang’s reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events and cultural exchange, reflecting the city’s commitment to inclusivity and global unity.
