KUALA LUMPUR, August 13 — The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra) is set to enhance Malaysia’s data centre industry through a renewed focus on renewable energy and sustainability. Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir highlighted Petra’s commitment to implementing the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) to support this initiative.

Speaking at the ‘Forward Faster Now | Asia and Oceania’ event, Akmal Nasrullah emphasized that the NETR has attracted foreign investment, while Petra’s CRESS aims to facilitate green electricity access for corporate entities. The scheme, starting in September, will enable third parties to buy or sell electricity via an open grid access system. Additionally, Miti is expected to unveil new energy and water efficiency standards for data centres next month.
