CYBERJAYA, August 14 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the public from online harms through stringent regulatory measures. Since January 2022, MCMC has blocked 10,423 websites that violated legal standards, with the majority falling into categories such as online gambling (4,484), online pornography (3,271), and copyright infringement (1,654).
This marks a significant decrease from the peak of 6,571 blocked sites in 2021, reflecting improved regulatory effectiveness. MCMC’s actions align with the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and are supported by enforcement agencies including the Royal Malaysian Police and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. These measures also aim to curb related crimes such as human trafficking and drug sales.
By collaborating with local service providers and enhancing Domain Name System (DNS) management, MCMC strives to maintain a secure online environment and ensure the safety of all users, particularly vulnerable groups like children and teenagers.
