GEORGE TOWN, August 18 — As Malaysia approaches its 67th year of independence, the United Buddhist Order of Malaysia (UBOM) is set to honor the occasion with the Merdeka Blessings MAHĀSAṄGHIKĀDANA 2024 on September 1, 2024, at Dewan Besar Phor Tay in Penang.
The event, themed “Harmonious Merdeka: Embracing Diversity with Kindness for a Brighter Tomorrow,” will feature 67 revered forest monks in a barefoot alms-giving ceremony, followed by prayers and rituals promoting harmony and prosperity across the nation.
This significant gathering will be led by Ven. Phra VinayaDhammavidesa @ Thān ChaoKun Keng Khemako, with Deputy Finance Minister YB Lim Hui Ying officiating the event. Around 5,000 devotees are expected to join this momentous celebration, which serves as a beacon of unity and kindness for all Malaysians, echoing the nation’s Merdeka spirit of inclusivity and togetherness.
