PUTRAJAYA, August 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that Barisan Nasional’s (BN) victory in the Nenggiri state by-election yesterday is a clear indication that voters are rejecting politics driven by insults and slander. Anwar expressed that the unexpected win showcases the people’s recognition of Umno’s ability to garner support from both the Malay and Orang Asli communities in the PAS and Bersatu stronghold of Kelantan.
Describing the result as surprising, Anwar acknowledged the tough challenge faced by the Umno and Unity Government candidate. He emphasized that the victory brings renewed confidence and energy to Umno, BN, Pakatan Harapan (PH), and their partners in the Unity Government.
“This outcome signifies the people’s rejection of divisive and harmful political tactics. It instills new spirit and confidence in our stance,” Anwar told reporters after hosting a luncheon for Brunei Crown Prince Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah today.
On Saturday, BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani was declared the winner of the by-election, securing 9,091 votes with a majority of 3,352, defeating PAS candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail from Perikatan Nasional (PN).
