PUTRAJAYA, August 19 — The Election Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election for the Mahkota state seat in Johor for September 28. This announcement follows the vacancy created by the death of the seat’s incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, earlier this month.

Candidate nominations will take place on August 14, providing a crucial opportunity for prospective candidates to submit their papers and participate in the electoral contest. Early voting is slated for September 24, allowing voters who are unable to attend the main election day to cast their ballots in advance. The election is anticipated to be a significant event in Johor’s political landscape as various candidates vie for the position.
