KUALA LUMPUR, August 19 — The resounding victory in the Nenggiri by-election signals not only the trust placed in Barisan Nasional (BN) but also the significant responsibility that comes with it, said BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Reflecting on the win, Zahid emphasized that the party will work diligently to fulfill this mandate and continue the effort to restore voter confidence in BN and Umno.
Zahid expressed hope that this success would be a catalyst for future achievements, acknowledging the long journey ahead. He extended his gratitude to BN’s Nenggiri by-election campaign leaders and all who contributed to the victory, underscoring the importance of humility and continuous effort in their ongoing political struggle.
The BN candidate, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, secured the Nenggiri state seat with a majority of 3,352 votes, defeating PAS’s Mohd Rizwadi Ismail. Known locally as “Awie,” Mohd Azmawi pledged to serve all constituents, regardless of political affiliation, recognizing the trust placed in him by the voters of Nenggiri.
Mohd Azmawi also shared his surprise at winning by such a large margin, a stark contrast to the narrow defeat in the previous state election. He credited his success, in part, to the popular nickname “BudakAwie,” which had resonated with locals during the campaign.
