GEORGE TOWN, August 23 – The Penang Hill Funicular Service will be temporarily closed from 6th to 12th January 2025 for its first bi-annual scheduled maintenance. This essential maintenance, supervised by engineers from Garaventa AG, the funicular manufacturer in Switzerland, ensures that the system remains in optimal condition and meets strict safety standards.
The maintenance will include an overhaul of the hydraulic system and a Level 4 maintenance of the AC motor. The funicular service will resume operations on 13th January 2025. During the maintenance period, visitors can still reach the Penang Hill summit via the jeep service operated by the Penang Hill Jeep Service Association or by using the hiking routes.
The jeep service counter will relocate next to the Penang Botanic Gardens Department in October 2024.
