GEORGE TOWN, August 24 — Penang’s tourism industry is set for a boost with the resumption of train services between Bangkok, Padang Besar, and Butterworth, announced by the Office of the Governor of the State Railways of Thailand. Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, Wong Hon Wai, expressed his enthusiasm for the service, noting that it will complement the 39 direct flights from Bangkok to Penang, further enhancing connectivity between the two regions.
Wong highlighted that the restored train service is expected to foster deeper cultural exchanges and economic cooperation between Thailand and Malaysia. He emphasized that this new route offers an exciting travel option for backpackers and young travelers, providing a scenic journey across the Peninsula and solidifying Penang’s role as a gateway to Southeast Asia. The service will not only benefit tourists but also residents of southern Thailand, making Penang more accessible and driving further growth in the state’s tourism industry.
