KUALA LUMPUR, August 24 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has criticized Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his persistent claim of securing support from 115 Members of Parliament through statutory declarations (SDs) after the 15th General Election. Anwar revealed that the number of SDs was disputed not only by the Council of Rulers but also by then-Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun, due to overlapping signatures from MPs.
Anwar explained that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had to exercise his discretion after reviewing the situation and the Federal Constitution, ultimately involving the Conference of Rulers to resolve the matter. He noted that while Muhyiddin continues to assert his claim, the real issue lies in the potential insult to the King’s authority, especially when some MPs had signed multiple SDs or given full mandate to their party leaders.
