KUALA LUMPUR, August 24 — Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced plans to unify all Malay non-governmental organizations (NGOs) under a single banner called “Rumpun Melayu,” with a focus on Malay and Islamic principles. Speaking at Umno’s annual general meeting, Zahid emphasized the need for unity among Malays as their political influence wanes, positioning the movement as a platform to ensure that Malay and Islamic agendas remain central in any political cooperation.
Zahid also outlined three political principles to navigate Malaysia’s evolving political landscape: securing parliamentary dominance, being open to alliances that prioritize Islam and Malay leadership, and promoting moderate politics. He criticized political rivals PAS and Bersatu, accusing them of compromising on Malay and Islamic issues during their time in government. Zahid urged the Malay community to be cautious of the Opposition’s rhetoric, warning that it could destabilize the nation.
