KUALA LUMPUR, August 26 — The search and rescue (SAR) operation for Indian tourist Vijayaletchumy, 48, who fell into a sinkhole along Jalan Masjid India, has yet to yield any new leads after 72 hours. Despite efforts by a 104-member SAR team, which resumed today, the search through five of six sewer manholes managed by Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) turned up no results.
A task force chaired by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr. Maimunah Mohd Shariff has decided to implement a flushing technique at the fifth and sixth manholes, near Bank Pertanian Lebuh Pasar Besar and the Kinabalu Roundabout, after suspecting blockages. The operation, coordinated by IWK, is ongoing. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that the SAR operation will continue until the victim is found.
Meanwhile, concerns over safety have been raised by residents of the nearby Malayan Mansion flats, especially following recent heavy rains. Mayor Maimunah has reassured the public that Kuala Lumpur remains safe, and a task force, including the Department of Geology and the Public Works Department, has been established to monitor the situation and address potential risks.
