KUALA LUMPUR, August 28 — Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has pleaded not guilty to a sedition charge in a Sessions Court in Gua Musang related to his remarks made during the Nenggiri by-election campaign. The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president is charged under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries penalties of up to RM5,000, three years’ imprisonment, or both.
Muhyiddin is accused of making seditious statements during a Perikatan Nasional rally on August 14, questioning why he was not invited to be sworn in as prime minister after the 15th general election despite claiming the support of 115 MPs. His bail was set at RM5,000, and the case will be mentioned again on November 4. The case is being presided over by Judge Nik Tarmizie Nik Shukri.
