GEORGE TOWN, August 31 – Penang’s domestic water consumers will soon see rebates reflected in their water bills between September and December 2024. The rebate, mandated by the Penang State Government, provides a RM6.20 discount for the first 10 cubic metres of water consumed, resulting in a total savings of RM18.60 over the 6-month period from July to December 2024. This initiative will benefit 597,705 domestic consumers and is projected to cost PBAPP approximately RM11 million.
Additionally, large households with eight or more members and a monthly income not exceeding RM5,580 will qualify for an extra RM20 rebate on their bi-monthly bills starting in September 2024. PBAPP has also responded to public concerns by limiting the bi-monthly billing timespan to a maximum of 63 days beginning in October 2024, ensuring more timely bill issuance despite recent delays caused by public holidays and an increased meter reading workload.
