KUALA LUMPUR, August 31 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on all universities in Malaysia to offer digital and artificial intelligence (AI) courses to students from non-STEM majors, including those studying literature. This initiative aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the digital and AI fields, spurred by significant investments from global technology giants like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Infineon.

Speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP) in Perak, Anwar emphasized the importance of inclusivity in education, noting that students from various academic backgrounds could contribute to the evolving needs of the tech industry. He highlighted examples from India, where literature graduates have successfully transitioned into roles within the digital and AI sectors, underscoring the need for a more diverse approach to AI and digital education in Malaysia.
