KUALA LUMPUR, September 1 – Zhuhai CosMX Battery Co Ltd, a global leader in lithium-ion battery manufacturing, has announced a significant RM1 billion investment to establish its first manufacturing plant in Kedah, Malaysia. The facility, to be developed under Unimx Technology Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., will be located in Kulim East Industrial Park and is set to break ground in the last quarter of 2024. This investment is part of CosMX’s global expansion strategy, aiming to enhance its manufacturing capabilities to meet the growing global demand for lithium-ion batteries.
The investment has been warmly welcomed by Malaysian officials, with YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), highlighting Malaysia’s strong appeal as a destination for tech-based investments. The project is expected to create over 1,000 jobs and bolster Malaysia’s position as a key manufacturing hub in Asia. Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, CEO of MIDA, expressed excitement about the positive impact on the local economy and workforce, while Mr. Xu Yanming, Chairman of CosMX, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable development and collaboration with Malaysian partners.
