KUALA LUMPUR, September 4 – Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) has raised serious concerns following the emergence of another sinkhole in the Jalan Masjid India area today. The environmental group warns that public safety in Kuala Lumpur is increasingly at risk, not only from sinkholes and land subsidence but also from flash floods, landslides, and slope failures exacerbated by the ongoing intense rains.
SAM President Meenakshi Raman called for urgent preventive measures, including the establishment of an Inter-Agency Committee led by City Hall, to monitor and address high-risk areas across the city. SAM also stressed the need for increased transparency, better public communication, and improved infrastructure resilience to mitigate the impacts of climate change and prevent future tragedies.
