SEPANG, September 4 — The Cabinet has reaffirmed its decision to maintain the RM599 maximum airfare ceiling during national festive seasons, ensuring affordable travel for Malaysians, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today. This policy will apply during key festive periods such as Christmas, Chinese New Year, and Hari Gawai, providing financial relief for travelers flying between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
Loke emphasized that the government will subsidize any additional costs exceeding the RM599 ceiling for one-way economy class flights during these periods. This subsidy ensures that the fixed rate is upheld, preventing the sharp fare increases that typically occur during peak travel times. The initiative was first introduced last year to alleviate the financial burden on those traveling home for the holidays.
