GEORGE TOWN, September 5 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will continue to lead the state until the end of his term, confirmed DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook. Despite opting out of the upcoming Penang DAP party elections, Loke emphasized that Chow’s decision will not impact the administration of the Penang state government.
Chow, who has served as Penang DAP chairman for 25 years, chose not to contest in the September 22 party polls to pave the way for new leadership as part of a planned succession. Loke stated that Chow’s decision was made in consultation with him, and the continuity of Chow’s role as Chief Minister aligns with the state constitution, which enforces a two-term limit on the position.
Chow, currently in his second term, has confirmed his intention to retire after completing his tenure, marking the end of a significant chapter in Penang’s political landscape.
