GEORGE TOWN, September 5 – Penang Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow has announced his decision to decline the nomination to contest in the upcoming Penang DAP State Committee election scheduled for 22 September 2024. Chow, who has served as the Penang DAP State Chairman for the past 25 years, cited his commitment to a planned leadership transition as the reason for stepping aside.
Chow explained that following his reappointment as Penang Chief Minister after the 2023 state general election, DAP Secretary General Loke Siew Fook tasked him with developing a succession plan. “The timing is perfect because the new Penang DAP state chairman will have more than three years to lead and prepare the party to face the next general election,” Chow stated, expressing his confidence in the party’s ability to elect a strong new leadership team.
In his media statement, Chow expressed his gratitude to the party, its members, and the people of Penang for their unwavering support throughout his tenure as both State Chairman and State Secretary of Penang DAP.
