VLADIVOSTOK, September 6 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed Malaysia’s stance on continuing oil and gas exploration in the South China Sea despite protests from Beijing, asserting that Malaysia’s activities remain within its own territory. Speaking from Russia, Anwar emphasized that while Malaysia values its friendly relations with China, the country will not cease its operations in its own waters.

Anwar acknowledged receiving protest notes from China regarding Malaysia’s exploration, but reiterated that the government’s actions are in line with international law. He also noted that Malaysia is open to discussions with Beijing but stressed that these disputes would not halt the country’s efforts to secure its economic interests within its exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
