GEORGE TOWN, September 7 — The Penang Port Commission (PPC) has announced a request for proposal (RFP) to develop the historic godowns at Church Street Pier and the land portion of Tanjong City Marina. The RFP, which offers a 30-year lease with an option to extend for another 15 years, is aimed at inviting qualified companies to restore and redevelop godowns 5, 7, and 8, as well as the marina’s land, all located within the George Town World Heritage zone.
PPC chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin emphasized the importance of preserving the Category II buildings, which cannot be demolished, and expressed hope that the development would enhance the heritage value of the area. The RFP is open until October 9, with a mandatory briefing and site visit scheduled for September 9. Interested parties can contact the PPC for more information.
