GEORGE TOWN, September 10 – The newly launched Penang STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Talent Blueprint will play a pivotal role in the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), announced Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz. The blueprint, introduced at Tech Dome Penang, will benefit from a portion of the RM25 billion allocated for semiconductor initiatives, reflecting Malaysia’s commitment to becoming a regional hub for manufacturing and services.
Tengku Zafrul highlighted that the blueprint aligns with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the Green Investment Strategy (GIS), aiming to address the talent shortage in high-tech sectors. The plan includes targets to double STEM enrolment in schools, university outputs, and the number of women in STEM, as well as to significantly increase the number of high-value jobs. This holistic framework is set to build a strong STEM talent pipeline from primary to post-tertiary education, supporting Malaysia’s ambition to lead in semiconductor and other advanced industries.
