GEORGE TOWN, September 12 — A total of 32 DAP officials from Penang will compete for 15 spots on the 2024/2027 state committee in the upcoming Penang DAP elections on Sept 22. Once elected, these 15 will select the party’s next state chairman. Notably, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was nominated, has decided not to defend his post as state chairman.
While former chief minister Lim Guan Eng is also sitting out. Contenders for the top leadership include Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim and Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, though neither is currently eligible for the chief minister role. The elections will take place at the Penang DAP convention, officiated by party secretary-general Loke Siew Fook.
