BATU KAWAN, September 15 – Benchmark Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: BHE), a leading global provider of engineering and manufacturing services, celebrated the grand opening of its new 8,000 sq. meter facility in Penang, Malaysia. This expansion marks Benchmark’s fourth facility in the region, bringing its total footprint in Penang to over 40,000 sq. meters. The new facility will boost capacity and capabilities, supporting both existing and new customer projects slated for 2025, and will create 200 jobs in the local community.
Key dignitaries, including Penang’s Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, attended the opening, highlighting Penang’s growing role as a hub for technological innovation. “Benchmark’s expansion is a testament to Penang’s appeal as a sustainable investment location,” said Chow. MIDA CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim praised the move, aligning it with Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030, which emphasizes talent development and high-value job creation.
Jeff Benck, Benchmark’s President and CEO, noted that the new facility will enhance capabilities such as e-beam welding and large form factor machining, helping the company serve its growing customer base in the Asia-Pacific region. The expansion underscores Benchmark’s commitment to Penang as a strategic hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.
