GEORGE TOWN, September 17 — Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin has voiced strong dissatisfaction over recent floods that hit Bayan Baru and Batu Maung, despite the RM40 million spent on flood mitigation efforts. After walking through the areas and reviewing the drainage systems, Sim expressed frustration and called for the state government to hold consultants accountable for their failure to meet expectations.

Following an emergency meeting on September 12, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) implemented short-term measures, such as installing temporary pumps and cleaning drains, costing RM360,000. Sim also announced long-term flood mitigation projects worth RM48 million, set to begin in 2025, to ensure a more permanent solution to the recurring floods.
