GEORGE TOWN, September 19 – The Penang Arts Council marks its 70th anniversary with a year-long celebration of music and the arts. This milestone event showcases the Council’s commitment to fostering cultural creativity through concerts, workshops, and community programs. Kicking off the celebrations is a special concert by internationally renowned pianist Irina Krasotina on September 27, 2024, where she will perform Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons and other classical masterpieces alongside Penang-based pianist Zhang Zhi.
The Council is also launching a comprehensive Youth and Community Outreach Program to nurture young talents and inspire the next generation of musicians. Through this initiative, aspiring artists will benefit from workshops, mentorship, and hands-on experiences that cultivate a love for music and the arts. In collaboration with the Rotary Club and Wawasan Open University (WOU), the program offers sponsorship opportunities for talented youth to participate in events like the prestigious Chamber Music Fest camp, allowing them to hone their skills and connect with peers in the global music community.
In support of these initiatives, the Council has received a generous RM8,000 contribution from PETACE and a RM30,000 sponsorship from Yayasan Ilham to further expand its outreach efforts. The anniversary celebration will also include monthly screenings of New York Metropolitan Opera performances, providing local audiences with access to world-class productions. These events align with the Council’s mission to create enduring cultural opportunities and strengthen Penang’s reputation as a thriving center for the arts.
